The Wisconsin Staff School (WSS), designed for cadets in their third year and beyond. Open to those who have previously completed an encampment and preferably a leadership school, such as WCA or NCOS, the cadets of the WSS serve as the staff for the other Encampment programs. As might be expected, prerequisites and expectations for those applying for WSS are high. Superior levels of performance and dedication from WSS cadets are also expected. The Staff School begins many months prior to the encampment, and is designed to give participants the skills and experience they need to fulfill their roles at the encampment, reinforcing and expanding upon what they might already have learned. Formal classes stress time management, leadership, interpersonal communications, recognition of individual differences, and methods of instruction, all with a particular focus on mentoring and encouraging all members to perform to their fullest. At the encampment itself, cadets serve in many vital roles. In tactical roles, they provide leadership for the Wisconsin Basic School and teach encampment classes, while in a support role others work behind the scenes to provide everything from meals to orientation flights. All staff members have the opportunity distinguish themselves in their various roles. |
